C-15Generative Engine Optimization

Generative engine optimization services: when a buyer asks ChatGPT who to hire, is your business named?

GEO makes your pages the passages AI assistants quote: crawlable HTML, answer-first copy, structured facts and earned third-party mentions, measured by which prompts name you.

The short answerquotable

Generative engine optimization is the work of making a business the source an AI assistant quotes. We fix crawlability, write answer-first pages, add structured data and earn third-party mentions, then track which buyer prompts name you. It sits on top of conventional SEO, because answer engines still retrieve from search indexes.

Where AI visibility leaks

The buyer asks an assistant. Someone else is named.

01

Pages AI crawlers cannot read

JavaScript-rendered content that GPTBot and PerplexityBot receive as an empty page.

02

No quotable answer

No self-contained passage an assistant can lift without rewriting.

03

Entity confusion

Inconsistent names and facts across the web, so assistants guess.

04

Rivals get the mention

Third-party lists and reviews name competitors, never you.

05

Crawlers blocked

AI bots disallowed by an old robots rule or firewall setting.

06

Facts left unstated

No Organization, Service or FAQ markup describing what you do.

07

Stale facts repeated

Outdated services or locations quoted back to buyers.

08

Nothing measured

No record of which prompts name you, so nothing improves on purpose.

How GEO compounds

Make it readable, make it quotable, earn corroboration, measure.

Human approval can be added at any step. Every change is logged.

Get quoted by AI.

Rank in Google. Get cited in ChatGPT.

Search is no longer one results page. We build pages that both engines and assistants can read, quote and trust.

No tricks

Nothing an assistant can catch you faking.

Assistants cross-check. These rules keep what they find consistent and true.

  1. 01Facts are stated once, sourced and kept consistent
  2. 02No fake reviews and no invented statistics
  3. 03No hidden text written for crawlers
  4. 04Mentions are earned, never bought in bulk
  5. 05We report what moved and what did not

Example programme / month one to three

What the first ninety days can look like.

An illustration of the order of work, not a client result.

Example programme / month one to threerepresentative
  1. 01Crawl check finds an empty shell served to AI bots; fixed first
  2. 02Buyer prompts mapped by intent, one owner page per cluster
  3. 03Answer blocks and FAQ schema added to the service pages
  4. 04Entity facts aligned across the site, profiles and directories
  5. 05Earned mentions pursued on relevant third-party sites
  6. 06Monthly check of which assistants name the business

Is this for you

A good fit and a bad one

Built for

  • Businesses whose buyers ask an assistant before they search
  • Sites that rely on JavaScript and may be invisible to AI bots
  • Teams that want answers cited, not only pages ranked
  • Leaders who will fund six to twelve months of compounding
  • Services with a clear, specific offer to describe

Not the right service when

  • You want guaranteed placement in an AI answer
  • You want fake reviews or bought mentions
  • You want one-off "AI SEO" tricks with no foundation
  • You have no real offer to describe
  • You need results in thirty days

Common questions

The practical version.

Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the work of making your business the source that AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews quote. It combines crawl access, answer-first pages, structured data and earned third-party mentions, then tracks which buyer prompts name you.

SEO earns rankings in a results list. GEO earns a place inside the generated answer. The two overlap heavily, because assistants still retrieve from search indexes, so GEO is built on a sound SEO foundation rather than replacing it. See our SEO and link building service.

No. Assistants differ and change, and nobody controls their answers. We control the inputs: whether AI crawlers can read your pages, whether each answer is quotable, whether your facts are consistent and whether credible third parties mention you. We then report which prompts name you.

The answer has to be in the raw HTML, because many JavaScript sites return an empty page to bots such as GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot. Your robots rules must allow them, and each page needs a short, self-contained answer, clear question headings and matching structured data.

We build a set of buyer prompts for your market and check them across the main assistants each month. The report shows which prompts name you, which pages are cited, which competitors appear instead and what changed since the last check.

Crawl and structure fixes can be read as soon as pages are recrawled. Being named reliably usually takes months of corroboration from third-party sources, so we do not promise a date. We agree a review point after the first quarter.

In practice, largely yes. Answer engine optimisation (AEO) and GEO both describe making content the source an AI answer draws on. We use the terms interchangeably; our answer engine optimization guide covers the method in detail.
